Sun-soaked Costa del Sol gem with Picasso heritage, historic Alcazaba fortress, and vibrant Andalusian culture.
Summer and beaches are definitely some of the highlights of any holiday, and if that’s what you’re craving, Malaga is the perfect destination. Located on Spain’s stunning Costa del Sol, Malaga has amazing sandy beaches, a vibrant cultural scene, and a perfect blend of historic charm and modern attractions. Whether you're relaxing on the beach, strolling through charming old streets, or enjoying delicious local cuisine, Malaga has something to offer all travellers.
Kick off your adventure in this incredible hidden gem with a guided bike tour, perfect for exploring the old town, marina, and the beach. This tour offers a faster pace than traditional walking tours, allowing you to see more of Malaga in less time. Most bike tours are beginner-friendly, so as long as you're comfortable on two wheels, you're in for an unforgettable experience. Typically lasting around three hours, these tours are led by knowledgeable local guides who will introduce you to some of the city’s most breathtaking spots. For anyone visiting Malaga, this activity is a must-do, offering the perfect way to dive into the charm of this sunny and stunning city.
For an exciting day trip from Malaga, think about heading to the stunning Cueva de Nerja. Just a short drive from the city, this spectacular cave system is one of Spain’s most impressive natural wonders. You are able to explore its vast chambers filled with incredible stalactites and stalagmites, some of which are thousands of years old. With guided tours available, you’ll learn about the cave’s fascinating history and prehistoric significance. It truly is a magnificent experience where you can admire the unique rock formations and you will even explore some of the local villages nearby. It’s an ideal getaway for nature enthusiasts and those looking to escape the city, offering a blend of breathtaking scenery and outdoor adventure.
Exploring Spanish cuisine is one of my absolute favourite activities, and it’s something I can never get enough of. It’s one of the many reasons I keep coming back to Spain. For an authentic and vibrant food experience in Malaga, head to Mercado de Atarazanas. This bustling market offers a variety of local delights, from fresh seafood tapas to traditional sweets like turrón. It is set in a historic building with a stunning moorish arch and colourful stained-glass windows. This spot becomes truly enchanting under the right lighting, and once you sample the array of delicious foods at different stalls, you’ll find it hard to leave—or you’ll be planning to return before your trip ends.
When you think of Spain, sunshine, beaches, and sparkling waters probably come to mind—and you’re absolutely right! Malaga is the perfect spot for stunning sunsets and relaxing on a boat. That’s exactly what I did during my visit. For an unforgettable experience, why not sail along the Mediterranean Sea? With Malaga’s famously sunny climate, you’re almost guaranteed a breathtaking sunset as you glide across the water in a catamaran yacht. Most trips last about an hour, and if you want to skip the hassle of searching, I recommend booking the ‘Sunset Catamaran’ tour, which costs around €15 (EUR) per person. It was a highlight of my trip and an experience I’ll always remember!
